Emergency Paks: Everyone should keep a few
small items in your purse, backpack or trunk in case
an emergency occurs when you are away from home: water
bottle & a baggy containing: granola bar or similar
snack, emergency phone numbers including one out of
state, emergency rain jacket/poncho with hood, small
flashlight. Use the items every few months
to keep the water & food fresh then be sure to replace
what is used immediately. Keep extra set of clothes,
walking shoes, a blanket, medication and anything else
you think you might need.

Accident Prevention Program Binder - all staff
must know location of this binder in their building –
this is a white binder with black lettering on orange
background “Accident Prevention Program – Peninsula
School District”. Please know where yours is
located, you may be tested. Book is on-line

ü MSDS
(Material Safety Data Sheet) Binder - all staff must
know location in their building - this should be located
next to or close to the Accident Prevention Program
Binder. Head Custodian is trained in MSDS use & is
responsible for updating this book. One binder is
required per building or campus & should be accessible
to all staff. See
Chemical Hygiene Plan.
DO NOT bring any chemicals: cleaning
supplies, glues, spray paints or any item from home that
may require MSDS Sheets. If you purchase through
KCDA, they will provide the appropriate MSDS paperwork.
Make sure all these items are properly stored. if
you have a question regarding any of this, please ask
your building custodian or the district custodial
supervisor.

All required building OSHA posters come from
Human Resources Department or Risk Management, do not
purchase your own.
ü
Safety Bulletin Boards - REQUIRED, must be
up-to-date & kept on Safety Bulletin Board, ONLY the
following can be posted on the safety bulletin board:
ü New
Employee Safety Orientation / Training - Written
Documentation - every staff member must have this
signed form in their personnel file at the District
Office. These forms are completed & signed at the
time of hire as well as at building staff meetings
facilitated by workers comp. If you believe you
have never received orientation & have never signed this
form – please go through the checklist with your
supervisor, sign form, have supervisor sign & send to
Caroline Antholt at the District Office ASAP.

Keep
your own personal items: trophies, photographs, etc clean & dust
free or take them home, cleaning personal items is not the
custodians responsibility. Paper or newspapers hanging on walls
for extended periods (aprx 3 months) should be laminated or
removed if they cannot be kept dust free. Microwaves,
toaster ovens, refrigerators, coffeepots, & couches are not
allowed in classrooms (unless used for biology or medication)
these items are to be kept in staff rooms only & must be kept
clean.

DO NOT Bring ANY cleaning supplies or chemicals from home.
We can only use products approved & purchased through KCDA or
approved vendors that will provide MSDS (Material Safety Data
Sheets). Custodians keep the updated MSDS books at each
building & need to know what is in your building for poison
control.
Fish bowls &
tanks must be kept clean or removed.

Earthquake
Preparedness
* Drop,
Cover & Hold *
Make sure heavy items are not kept on shelves that could fall on
someone's head during an earthquake. If you must store items
high, make sure it is properly secured or very light weight.
Everyone is responsible for their own area or classroom -
supervisors should enforce.

LIFTING - remember proper lifting techniques
- get assistance - bend your knees but do not twist
while lifting. Take smaller loads or use a cart!
 |

Visiting & Signing in at the Main office
- ANYONE visiting a school that is not
their own school - including ESC staff, Administrators &
Maintenance, should sign in (& out) at the main office
when visiting those schools & either wear a name badge
or pick up a guest badge. This is for your safety!

ID Badges
Staff ID Badges are available through Lifetouch at no extra
charge during student photo sessions & retakes.
Lifetouch representative is Jason Brown 1-800-637-9833.
Schools are responsible for their own building ID badges & can
make & use their own guest, visitor or substitute badges if
they wish. Debbie Bennett at the District office handles ID
Badges for employees that work in the District Office,
Maintenance Department, Floating Custodial Staff, &
Transportation Department. |
