Traffic Safety Education

Due to changes in
state funding, the Traffic Safety program is now a self-sustaining program.
The tuition of $255 includes the classroom instruction and four behind the wheel
drives.
If three absences or some other event occurs and a student cannot complete the
classroom instruction part of the program once started, he/she is able to drop
and retake the class in a later session at no additional charge. The $255
tuition allows a student one classroom retake. If a second retake is
needed an additional fee of $127.50 will be required. A receipt indicating
payment of $127.50 from the building bookkeeper is required before a student can
start a third classroom session.
In the past, the State would also subsidize for extra drives if a student needed
more than the four drives to complete their class. The tuition allows for
a student to make up a drive if he/she needs to do so. If any student
needs more than the allowed four drives to satisfy the driving skills
requirement, they will be charged an additional $30 per drive.
The student will need to pay the bookkeeper the $30 fee
and bring a receipt to the Driver's Ed instructor. They will then be
allowed to sign up for another drive.
Tips to keep from paying the extra $30:
▪ See that your teenager gets lots of practice
▪
Make sure your teenager shows up for his/her
designated time to drive. If a student misses his/her drive,
this will count as a drive.
▪
Make sure you call and cancel a drive if a student is
ill or not able to keep a drive appointment for some
other reason. If the student is not at
school due to illness or calls the Driver's Ed room to cancel his/her
drive at least 48 hours ahead of his/her
scheduled drive (so we can fill their driving slot), then this will
not count as a missed drive.
The new Graduated License requires that a student hold their permit for a
minimum of six months. Prior to applying for their license, they must have
a minimum of 50 hours of practice driving of which at least 10 hours must be
night driving. The TSE tuition will cover a maximum of two class sessions
and four drives, behind the wheel, with a driving instructor. A parent
will need to provide a car for their student.
