This class is for students
interested in any medical or health related field--physician, nurse, lab
employee, dentist, veterinarian, sports or physical therapist,
pharmacist, EMT, psychologist--and is taught by a registered nurse.
Fundamentals of medical terminology, legal/ethical issues, safety
procedures, basic infection control, and professional behaviors will be
presented. This course also offers consumer information regarding the
health care system. Students explore employment options in health care,
and field training requirements at entry levels. Basic anatomy and
physiology will be introduced. A Health or Science credit may be earned
if student completes section I and II for an entire year. Semester one
is offered at GHHS during the first half of the year. Semester two
involves several hours of field experience in a hospital setting, and
student will need to provide transportation. At the end of both
sections, students are eligible to take the CNA test (Certified Nursing
Assistant), an entry level certification for the nursing field. Related
courses students may want to consider include: anatomy, child
psychology, athletic performance training, interpersonal relations, and
biology. |
