  Students will gain an understanding of basic economic concepts and analyze the effect of economic systems on individuals, groups, and society.  Students will apply the principles of business to personal and family problems relating to earning and managing income.  Students will participate in a stock market game where they will be able to use concepts learned in a real market situation.  A computer simulation where students compete will also be used to apply and evaluate: pricing, production, marketing, investment, and research and development.  Students will compare and contrast: banking and financial systems (including the role of Federal Reserve, banks and monetary policy), introduction to investments and portfolio construction (including stocks, bonds, and mutual funds), and international trade (including foreign, balance of trade and government influence on the matters of imports, exports, tariffs, quota).
 
   

Course Objectives:

·        Describe the basic characteristics of the U.S. economic system with an emphasis on
   the role of private property, the price system, competition, and entrepreneurship.

·        Demonstrate how fundamental economic concepts such as markets, economic 
   incentives and opportunity cost operate in the United States and other economic  
   systems.

·        Develop an understanding of the economic principles that influence business decisions.

·        Describe the economic roles governments play in a market economy.

·        Help students understand the need for ethical standards for business leaders,
   producers, and consumers.

·        Foster appropriate life, study, and decision-making skills.

·        Bring students into contact with representatives of the business community
