Amy Nelson has worked in public education in Washington for over twenty years. She received a B.A. in education from the University of Northern Iowa, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Seattle Pacific University, and principal certification from Western Washington University.
Department Responsibilities
- Facilitate the administration and analysis of all required federal, state and district assessments. This includes the following:
- National Assessment of Educational Progress - NAEP
- Washington Assessment of Student Learning - WASL
- Academic and Cognitive Abilities Test for the Highly Capable Program
- Peninsula School District Reading Portfolio Assessment and Basic Reading Inventory
- Math and Reading Placement tests for transition years
- Coordinate staff development opportunities in the area of assessment.
- Monitor federal accountability requirements of the “No Child Left Behind” act.
- Assist staff, students and parents in effectively using assessment data to set goals, inform instruction, and monitor student academic progress.
