We will continue collaborative efforts
with community partners on issues that affect the health
and safety of our
students. We are once again sponsoring a Community Drug
and Alcohol Forum to be held on Tuesday, November 10
from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Peninsula High School
auditorium. This is an educational opportunity for all
to learn how we
can help our students and make our community stronger. |

Our district continues to experience
increased absent rates at several schools, and the
majority of symptoms being reported are consistent with
flu-like illness. We will continue to monitor student
and staff absenteeism and follow Health Department
guidelines for reporting illnesses.

The first of two free immunization
clinics offered to students to receive H1N1 flu vaccine
was a huge success. This service is provided to students
in the Peninsula School District through a grant. The
District provides the space and Franciscan Healthcare
nurses administer the vaccine. The second free
immunization clinic is scheduled for:
- November 18, 2009 Peninsula High

The H1N1 virus and the possible
outbreaks of illness among children in school continue
to be a concern. Our district works closely with the
Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department in providing
guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus and in
planning for the management of any outbreaks of the
illness that may occur in our schools. |
