Story by SIMONE TORREGGIANI for the Peninsula Outlook Recycling of paper will be a new focus of the Peninsula High School Environmental Club. Members recently contacted teachers to make sure that those willing to have paper bins in their classrooms will be provided with one. Aluminum recycling will be done in barrels recently purchased and placed outside of the school buildings at various locations of the campus. The bins inside of classrooms were often unsanitary and viewed as eyesores. |
| "One
of our goals is to keep the campus clean," Environmental Club co-adviser Carol Alex
said. Due to misuse of the containers, D&M Recycling moved the bins from the parking lot below the auditorium. "People were dumping all kinds of things there," Alex said. The Environmental Club has asked teachers to have students in their classes empty the classroom bins in a large paper recycling container outside the 600 building. Club members will assist in emptying the classroom bins if a teacher requests it. By narrowing their focus, club members hope to improve their efficiency. "We'd rather do a little bit well," Environmental Club co-adviser Karen Peck said, "than trying to do too much and doing it poorly." The club is in the process of placing aluminum recycling containers around the campus. The bins will be emptied regularly by the community organization C.A.L. (Citizens Against Litter). The Environmental Club is encouraging cooperation in using the new containers properly.
