Investigation Checklist

1. Question

The investigation question includes both the manipulated and responding variables.

2. Hypothesis

The hypothesis includes a prediction of the effect of the manipulated variable on the responding variable.

Reason

The hypothesis includes a cause-effect reason for the prediction.

3. Materials

A list of the minimum materials needed to perform the procedure is given.

4. Procedure

Logical Steps

The numbered steps of the procedure are logical and detailed enough to repeat the procedure

Manipulated Variable

Only one manipulated (changed) variable is identified or implied.

Responding Variable

The responding (dependent) variable is identified or implied.

Controlled Variable

A variable that is kept the same must be identified or implied

Trails are Repeated

More than one trial is planned to measure the responding variable.

Record Measurement

The procedure states or implies that measurements are recorded periodically.

5. Data

The data is presented in an organized table with labeled units.

6. Analysis

The results are described and the hypothesis is evaluated.

A graph may be used to show patterns in the data.

7. Conclusion

Answer

The investigation question is answered.

Supporting Data

At least two data points (high and low) are given.

Explanation

Differences in the data are used to show how the results support the conclusion.
