Unit 1: The Nature of Science

Unit Statement: Students explore the role science plays in society and develop investigative skills.

Learning Objectives:

1.      The student will define science and give examples of how it impacts our society.

2.      TSW define technology and describe its relationship to science.

3.      TSW use the news media to gather information about current scientific research and share what was learned with the class.

4.      TSW describe how the following terms relate to a scientific investigation: hypothesis, controlled experiment, manipulated variable, responding variable, conclusion.

5.      TSW design and conduct a controlled investigation that includes a question, hypothesis, list of materials, procedure, collected data, and conclusion.
