Welcome to the Harbor Heights computer lab where
learning is technologically interactive and exciting.  Each
child has his or her assigned computer and is able to spend
forty minutes a week exploring basic features in Microsoft
Word
, PowerPoint, and Publisher; creating graphic designs;
searching the Internet for topic information; and exploring
various web sites that connect to academic goals.

                                  TECH TIME GOALS

Develop General Technology Awareness
     *Students in all grades will learn computer terminology.
     *Students in K will practice computer basics such as pointing and
       clicking with the mouse, launching programs, and opening/closing folders.
     *Students in grades 1-5 will practice computer basics such as logging
       on, shutting down, pointing and clicking with the mouse, launching
       programs, and opening/closing folders.
     *Students in grades 3-5 will practice managing documents and folders.
Discuss Responsibilities for Developing Digital Citizenship
      *Students will learn rules and policies for appropriate technology use.
      *Students will develop an understanding of and respect for the
        personal nature of documents and data produced by themselves and
        others.
      *Students will develop positive attitudes toward use of technology.
      *Students will develop understanding of reliability/appropriateness
        of a particular source.
Develop Keyboarding and Word Processing Skills
      *Students in K-1 will practice using the keyboard to recognize letters
        and their placement.
      *Students in grades 2-5 will practice keyboard skills for 10 minutes each
        period using New Keys for Kids, a typing program from Sunburst.
     
*Students in grades 2-5 will concentrate on correct hand position when word
        processing.
      *Students in grades 3-5 will learn basics of word processing such as insert,
        cursor, space bar, enter, tab, format, move, cut, paste, and copy.
Generate Ideas and do Presentations
     *A variety of language projects will be completed in grades 1 and 2 using
       Microsoft Word.
     *A variety of language projects will be completed in grades 3-5 using
       Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
     *Classroom and holiday themes will be emphasized throughout the year using  
       appropriate sites and programs.
    *Visuals such as tables and graphs will be generated in grades 4 and 5 using
      Microsoft Word.
    *Grades 4 and 5 will do an introductory lesson in Excel.
Locate Information/Research Topics
    *Students in grades 1-5 will visit pre-selected research sites related
      to specific topics and use the gathered information to complete activities.
    *Students in grades 3-5 will utilize search engines such as Google to find
     relevant information on a given topic.
    *Students in grades 3-5 will navigate the available district search engines
      such as WebPath Express and Nettrekker, as well as our district library
     Online Patron Access Catalogue (OPAC).
