SOPHOMORE EXHIBITION: Annotated Bibliography & Outline

 

After you have had your topic approved and narrowed, you are ready to start researching. To ensure that your sources are credible and reliable, you will create an annotated bibliography, which will enable you to evaluate your sources. An annotated bibliography includes a list of sources, in correct MLA format, on your topic, along with a brief description and evaluation of each source.  You will also be submitting bullet outlines for your paper and presentation and a Works Consulted page for your essay.

 

I.                    Annotated Bibliography

A.  Six (6) different sources  

 

      B.  For each source you must include the following:

                  1. First, include the complete source information, in correct MLA format, as your heading.

2. Write a concise summary of the central theme and/or scope of the book or source, which includes

    the causes, effects, and important events of your topic.

3. Include one or more sentences that evaluate the authority or background of the author.

4. Comment on the intended audience. How do you know they are targeted? 

 

II.                 Bullet Outlines

A.      (1) for presentation and (1) for persuasive paper.

                                                              1.      Presentation Bullet Outline

a.        To illustrate your topic, you will need to include the four (4) sites your historical tour will take us to. Remember these have to be places we could visit today; they must exist.

 

B.       Persuasive Paper Bullet Outline

                                                              1.      To fulfill the paper requirement you will need to write a 3-4 page persuasive essay organized around the following prompt: Based on (3) social science perspectives, did your topic have a positive or negative impact?

 

                                                              2.      Include your thesis & topic sentence: (Your topic) had a positive/negative (choose one) impact on (Who/What) as viewed through (3) social science perspectives

a.        The punitive measures of the Treaty of Versailles caused World WarII. This can be illustrated by examining the situation through political, economic and psychological perspectives.

 

C.       Next, create a bulleted list of those perspectives, with the evidence supporting them, and a brief explanation of why they support your thesis. Example:

a.        Reason/Example:

b.       Explanation/Evidence: (evidence/quotation, with MLA internal citation)

c.        Significance/Importance: (why this supports positive/negative impact/link back to thesis)

 

III.               Works Consulted Page

A.      Include a properly formatted Works Consulted page, in proper MLA format, with your bullet outlines -  of the … WORKS YOU CONSULTED!!! These are ALL the sources you looked at to obtain information for your notes (including any encyclopedias used for background info).

 

IV.               Manuscript Requirements

A.      All assignments must be word-processed, double-spaced, utilize 12 point font, with margins set at 1 inch.

 

PLAGIARISM: Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to: copying, lifting, or taking information from others without giving due credit to the original author or source. Not including proper MLA citation, internal and/or the Works Consulted page, is considered plagiarism. Violation of this policy will result in zero credit for the assignment and other serious repercussions, including possible failure of this class.
