List below the five most important or prevalent themes introduced thus far:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

Find examples from the text when these themes are most apparent. Utilizing these five quotes/passages/scenes, discuss the following questions as a group.

When done discussing each theme and passage, as a group, write five essay prompts based on these themes and their accompanying passage. In writing these prompts you may choose to ask yourselves: what is most important for a reader to understand about this passage and this theme, what do we want them to be able to convey in an essay?

Example:

In 1984 Orwell suggests that Truth or one’s understanding of Truth is compromised by one’s surrounding environment (government, individuals, family, work, etc.) In a well-written essay, discuss how the manipulation of Truth in 1984 represents Orwell’s harsh warning to readers about the inevitable future and our possible downfall.
