Fanaticism vs. Indifference

 

 

Directions:  First, read through the articles you have been assigned, and then jot down your answers in the space provided.

 

“Education & Fanaticism”

 

  1. Do you see fanaticism as being a real threat or concern to you in your life?  Why/why not?
  2. Can fanaticism be harmless?
  3. Where is fanaticism evident at GHHS?  What kind of a force is it—strong/weak?
  4. Elie Wiesel says, “True education negates fanaticism”—explain
  5. What is the purpose of his writing?  How can you tell?
  6. Find an objective statement.
  7. Find a subjective statement.

 

Groups:  Begin by seeing if anyone had any questions about the article. (Try to see if there was anything anyone needed to be clarified.)  When you are sure that everyone understood, talk through the following discussion questions with the following in mind:

·        Did you hear from everyone?  Try to get a sense of all the views, not just those of one or two.

·        Did you give reasons to support your ideas?

·        Did you answer the “why”?
