CLASSICAL VALUES –Character Speech
I. ASSIGNMENT
A. Research the life of ancient Greek or Roman to determine how well they lived up to the classical
values.
B. You will be assigned one of the following individuals to research:

3. Alexander the Great 21. Herodotus
4. Archimedes 22. Hippocrates
5. Aristotle 23. Livia Drusilla
6. Augustus 24. Lucius Sulla

8. Cicero 26. Marcus Brutus
9. Claudius 27. Mark Antony
10. Cleisthenes 28. Nero
11. Commodus 29. Pericles
12. Constantine 30. Plato
13. Diocletian 31. Seneca
14. Diogenes 32. Solon
15. Epicurus 33. Tiberius
16. Euclid 34. Trajan
17. Galen 35. Zeno
18. Sapho 36. Livy
C. Once you have your individual, focus your research around the following questions:
1. Why are they famous?
2. How well did they live up to the classical values?
II. PRESENTATION
A. Organize your information into a 2-3 minute presentation to the class.
B. The purpose of the presentation is to explain which classical value they best or least reflect. Do
not attempt to cover more than one value or both sides of the same value.
C. Instead, your presentation should be tightly focused around one classical value, how well your
individual lived up to that standard, and the specific evidence that supports your assessment.
D. A word-processed topic outline of your presentation must be turned-in prior to your presentation.
Included on your outline should be a list of the sources you used in proper MLA form.
III. ASSESSMENT
A. Evaluation will be based on the rubric labeled Classical Character Speech on my website.
B. Please staple the rubric to the top of your outline.
