Embedded Assessment 4.1: Song Writing and Fairy Tales

 

Part I: Select one of the fairy tales from the list below, it must be one of the original versions*. Then complete the following:

-          Read it - Identify the major archetypes included in the story.

-          Then, on a piece of paper:

o        List each character and the archetype he/she represents.

o        Identify the significance of those characters and archetypes to the story and

o        How they contribute to the intended lesson or moral of the story.

*When you turn this in, include a copy of the version you read.

Part II:  Select a character other than the hero or heroine from the fairy tale you studied. Then, write original song lyrics from that character’s point of view. You may choose a melody from a well known song, or you may create the melody along with the lyrics. If you choose a well-known melody, please include the name of the original composition.

-          The song should have, at least, two verses and a chorus.

-          The song should also have a very clear tone and purpose related to the original story and the character.

Please choose from one of the following fairy tales. If you would like to choose a fairy tale not on the list, see your teacher for approval.

Please be prepared to perform if asked. This assignment will serve as the scoring rubric, please attach to your lyrics, reading response, and fairy tale text.
