Unit 2 – Families & Celebrations: Embedded Assessment 1 – Film Analysis

Your assignment is to analyze how a cultural conflict is presented in the film you have studied. The conflict may have occurred within a culture or between cultures. This analysis should identify the conflict, examine the reasons behind it, and explain how it is resolved.

  1. After you have viewed the film, organize your initial thoughts by brainstorming the various types of conflicts represented in the film. While brainstorming, you must also identify the significance of the conflict to the film as a whole. You should identify at least six conflicts

  1. For your essay, choose one conflict you feel comfortable analyzing in more depth.

  1. Pre-Writing: Once you have selected a conflict to analyze, complete a color coded outline. This must be focused on the conflict and the significance of the conflict to the film as a whole. Go back to your notes and identify the causes of the conflict you chose. Then, consider what meaningful significance (specific to this example and your chosen conflict) can be further explained in your analysis. Consider how the conflict is resolved. Does the resolution hint a larger significance in the film?

  1. Rough Draft: Your draft must be typed and double spaced.
