SOPHOMORE EXHIBITION: TIME-LINE

After you have had your topic approved and narrowed, you are ready to start researching information. To help you organize your research, you are going to create a time-line of key dates and events related to your topic, as well as important effects that follow. These causes, effects, and important events should be arranged chronologically. You will also be submitting separate bullet outlines for your paper and presentation and a Works Consulted page.

              I.      Time-Line

A.     Your time-line will need to include at least fifteen (15) dates that were significant to the development and impact of your topic.

B.     Each cause, effect, or important event needs to be written on its own three by five (3x5) note card.

C.     Each note card needs to contain the following information:

                                                             a.     Date

                                                            b.     Title for cause, effect, or important event

                                                             c.     Paraphrase or direct quotation of source (remember, you can’t quote an encyclopedia!)

                                                            d.     MLA internal citation for paraphrase or direct quotation

                                                             e.     Either why it was important to the development of your topic (this will support your presentation) or what positive of negative impact this shows your topic had on western civilization (this will support your persuasive paper)

D.     Each note card then needs to be affixed to a timeline on a board that will allow you to see all of them at once.

           II.      Bullet Outlines

A.     You will also turn in two bullet outlines, one for your presentation and one for your persuasive paper.

                                                             a.     Presentation Bullet Outline

1.      You will need to include the four (4) sites that your historical tour will take us on to illustrate your topic. Remember these have to places that we could visit today; they must exist.

                                                            b.     Persuasive Paper Bullet Outline

1.      You will need to include your thesis in the basic form of: (Your topic here) had a positive/negative (choose one) impact on Western Civilization for (reason #1, reason #2, and reason #3).

2.      You will then give a bulleted list of those reasons with the evidence you found to support them and a brief explanation of why it supports your thesis. Example:

a.       Reason #1: (state your first reason)

b.      Evidence: (state your evidence/quotation with MLA internal citation)

c.       Explanation: (reason why this supports positive/negative impact)

         III.      Works Consulted Page

A.     In addition to your time-line you will be submitting a properly formatted Works Consulted page of MLA citations of the … WORKS YOU CONSULTED!!!

B.     These are the sources that you looked at to get your information for the note cards (including any encyclopedias used for background info).
