A. The purpose of this assignment is for you to gain personal insights into an aspect of one of the topics covered this semester in English and/or history.
B. To fulfill this objective you will need to ask, research, and answer an “I wonder” question. You need to get pre-approval for this.
C. Your question should extend beyond the basic information that everybody has learned in class. Since you have already asked an “I wonder” question for the first unit, questions about the first civilizations cannot be used. the questions can date from the Greeks to the Renaissance.
D. Once you have your question, search for an answer from one source that provides information beyond the material in your textbook or what we learned in class.
E. Write a word-processed paper which provides:
1. your question and why you ask it.
2. the answer to your question.
3. how the answer broadens and/or deepens your understanding.
4. an evaluation of the credibility, accuracy, and thoughtfulness of your source including
a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of the book or
article. Include one or more sentences that (a) evaluate the authority or
background of the author, (b) comment on the intended audience, (c) compare
or contrast this work with another you have cited, and (d) explain how this
work illuminates your bibliography topic.
5. a citation for your source in proper MLA form (see http://www.mla.org).
A. This assignment will be due on January 16th.
B. Assessment will be based on a rubric provided prior to the portfolio due date.
