Essential Learning Requirements:

 

This course meets the Washington State Essential Learning Requirements for high school Physical Education.

 

 

Course Objectives:

         

To improve individual fitness levels, skills   and personal attitudes towards physical fitness through walking activities. To also increase knowledge pertaining to healthy lifestyles and the human body.  This course will try to incorporate fun, fitness and expanding physical activity into the student’s contract.  In accordance with the Washington State Essential  Academic Learning Requirements for 9th-12th grade fitness,  the student  will understand the concepts of physical fitness and walking and develop and monitor progress and personal fitness goals.

 

 

Method of Earning Hours:

 

Students must earn 45 hours of walking in class.  Make up hours for missed class time will be made up during Friday school or under the direction of a supervising adult.  This arrangement must be approved by the Walking Fitness class instructor.  15 hours of credit will be earned through personal health and fitness video instruction.

10 hours will be earned through student journaling, personal reflection, and goal setting regarding physical fitness and their personal health.  Another 5 hours will be credited by completing a personal health and fitness plan, while an additional 15 hours will be attributed to outside reading and comprehension activities.  Optional activities can be utilized to make up hours but must be approved by the instructor.
