This Oceanography course contract is dependent upon the student completing a number of course units for credit. This course contract is organized so that the student can complete all the work online or by using the World Wide Web. A variety of web page addresses are given at the bottom of each unit page of instructions to provide help in finding the information in the performance objectives.
Each student completing the course contract is expected to do all the work required for 90 hours or a.5 credit. Students are expected to keep and organize a 3 ring binder with index pages for each unit which will hold all the students written answers as well as collected work from the WWW and other sources. The student must turn in the completed notebook for credit and organization and neatness will be necessary for credit. An oral exam may be given in the form of a discussion about the notebook and the course requirements, as well as the student giving some indication as to what was learned. It is expected that the student will use the notebook collection of work as a reference during this exam. Upon completion of the exam, credit will be given.
Each unit may have some written answers to questions and other instructions that are part of the performance objectives for that unit. That written work and answers should be word processed and printed out and place in the correct unit section of the notebook. There will also be work that needs to be accessed by the World Wide Web and WWW addresses. That work is also expected to be printed out and placed in the correct unit section of the notebook.
To summarize, all work that is indicated by the performance objectives is expected to be completed for credit and the resulting work is to be placed in the notebook for credit. There are 11 units each worth 8 hours of credit each and a final oral exam worth 2 additional hours. Additional credit work may be granted, but it is not expected to be a substitute for any unit work.
