Today you will go on an African safari by photographs—a
perfect introduction to animal reports! |
|
Some amazing facts from our animal report experts:
*When mussels die, they are immediately poisonous, so
people can’t eat them.
*Harbor seals gobble down big chunks of food.
*Before a hunt, African Wild dog males make exited
sounds and lick each other’s faces.
*If you get pricked by a sea urchin’s spine, don’t take
it out because your skin could become infected. Just
let it dissolve because it’s made of calcium.
*When a koala is born, it’s as small as a jellybean. As
an adult, it’s two to three feet tall.
*If a tiger is hunting, it will share its food with cubs
that don’t belong to it.
*Limpets let their eggs float free into the water.
*For Northern Elephant Seals, the bigger the nose, the
bigger chance of getting a mate. It swallows in big
chunks.
*A sculpin’s spines are extremely painful and poisonous.
*A turkey vulture can see 40 miles away.
*An anemone can hitch a ride on a hermit crab.
*The White-handed Gibbon gets its water from its fur.
*An impala can jump up to 30 feet high.
*The walrus will use its tusk in a fight.
*Sea otters will hammer clams off of rock and collect
them for dinner under their armpits. |
A BIG thank you to those students who were able to do

this Thursday so get those final minutes in so you can
get that 1000 minute medal at our special Read & Lead
assembly.
Students are voting during OLARC this week for their

it the best.

ask while you’re reading.

homework to prepare for your spelling test.
To help solve math story problems:
Read the problem and visualize the action. Retell the

draw a picture to match the visualizing (if needed).
Next write an equation which matches the picture or
problem. The student then needs to solve the equation
using the strategies we’ve learned. (It always helps to
check the answer with another strategy.) The students
then label the answer. |
