Educational Careers is a course
for 11-12th graders who are interested in exploring a career in an
educational related setting. These include teaching, counseling, or
administration. The majority of activities will focus on teaching. This
course consists of both academic preparation with Mrs. Bourland at the high
school, and a field/internship experience at an elementary or middle school.
A schedule will be set up to provide for both experiences. Please explore
the links at the left to get an idea of some of the activities you will
complete for the academic portion. The majority of the time, students will
be working with their mentor teacher and assisting with the students. Educational Careers is currently articulated at the university level with CWU, WWU. At CWU this course is ED CS 300 and is referred to as "Pre-Autumn Experience." At WWU they refer to it as "September Experience." All of the students who begin their educational program are required to take this class. By completing Ed. Careers with a "B" or better, and completing a portfolio, you may waive this 4 credit course at the University level. Names of students will be forwarded to these institutions. The Pierce County Consortium (PCC) also offers the articulation agreement for students attending Pierce College, or Clover Park. Please see "Careers in Education" at pc3connect.com for more information. This articulation provides for 3 credits. The articulation agreement is based on a yearlong enrollment in Ed. Careers at the high school level. Students may take it for a semester only; however, it may be possible the articulation credit will not be possible. |
