Lab 9 Science Course Course Expectations Instructor: Mr. Brockhoff Lab 9 Science is a lab/activity-based science class that is designed to develop critical thinking in science using scientific, technological and mathematical concepts. Additionally, it is designed to provide the foundation for the State Standards Assessment that you will be required to pass in the spring of your 10th grade year. During your year in 9th grade lab science, I would hope that you would meet the following objectives:
Content Area (some areas are covered both semesters): 1st Semester : (ch 1,2, 8-17) 2nd Semester: (ch 3-7, 8-22) Greek/Latin word roots Greek/Latin word roots Scientific Method/Research Energy Graphing Waves: Light & Sound “Process Experiments” Forces Major Science Project Motion (velocity, acceleration) Periodic Table & Elements Thermal Physics (Heat & Temperature) Chemical Bonding & Orbitals Electricity & Magnetism Chemical Reactions Matter: (phases & material science) Balancing Equations Weather & Climate Astronomy Plate Tectonics & Earthquakes/Volcanoes

Classroom Rules: 1. Be courteous and respectful to each student, teacher, substitute, and visitors. Respect the right of all students to learn and the teacher to teach. 2. Be prepared and on time. Be in your seat when class is schedule to begin, and come prepared with your Lab-Journal book, 3-ring binder, a pencil or pen, your science notebook, and a scientific calculator. Remember, school attendance policies will be followed. 3. No food or drink in the classroom. (Only water is permitted). 4. No CD players, I-pods, cell phones, etc., will be allowed in class from bell to bell. Attendance and Make-up Work: When you have an excused absence, it will be your responsibility for make-up work. First, Look at my webpage to see what happened. If you have questions, Ask! Make-up from an excused absence must be done within five (5) school days upon your return to school. If you are absent the day of a test you will be expected to take the test before or after school within 2 school days starting upon the day that you return. Grading %: (These are approximate %) Assessments: Tests/Quizzes: 65% Projects/Reports: 15% Homework/Class work: 10% Labs/Journaling: 5% Attitude/Citizenship 5%
