Top of A repels Top of B, Bottom of B attracts Bottom of C, Top of C attracts Bottom of A. If the bottom of A is a South Pole Magnet, explain the rest.

Lab: Potential Energy à Kinetic Energy

Question: How far will an object travel given (Horizontally) given a certain amount of Potential Energy?

Background:        Using the PE of a given height (minimum of .20m) of a Pendulum, determine the horizontal distance a bob will travel when cut. (ONLY ONE CHANCE)

Hypothesis: If the height of the bob (pendulum) is _H1__m above the bottom of the arc and the height of the bob when cut is __H2__ m above the floor, then the bob will travel __x__ m horizontal when cut (at the bottom of the arc) because horizontal distance depends only on horizontal speed and time in the air. Horizontal speed can be calculated from height and time can be calculated by how long it takes to drop H2 m.

Materials: ring stand, thread, bob and razor blade.

Procedures (Yours: 4-7 numbered steps):

            1.

            2.

            …

            …

Data:

H1

Height above arc (m)

(Using

PE =KE)

Horiz. Vel.

H1

Height above ground when cut (M)

Time to hit ground (s)

Horizontal Dist (x) traveled

EC:    If you can land within 2.0 cm of your predicted target. (ONLY ONE CHANCE)

Conclusion:  (Make sure to include   % error)
