Addressing the Board

The President of the Board presides at all meetings. To encourage communication with patrons during regular business meetings, individuals who wish to address the Board may do so by signing the public speaker sheet.  Comments from the public are taken under Board advisement and may or may not receive action at a future meeting.  Study sessions are reserved for the Board to study a particular topic or issue(s).  Public comment is not generally included in the study session agenda.

Anyone may speak at Board business meetings. The Board also accepts written testimony, either delivered or mailed to the District Administration Office. Communications addressed to the Board are distributed to all Board members.

Public testimony is most effective when addressed to specific agenda items or matters of general concern. Other information, questions, or problems can usually be addressed by district staff.  When addressing the Board, please note that slander laws may apply to public criticism of individuals (for example, school district employees) identified by name.

For an issue that is not on the agenda, please address the Board under the agenda item: Communication with Guests – District Residents.  Use the sign-up sheet posted before the meeting. People on this list will be called sequentially during the public communication period on the agenda.
